About us
We are a small UK team with a simple idea. Fruit and veg should be easy to keep, easy to carry and a joy to eat.
Why we started
Berries are wonderful for about three days. Then they are not. Most of us have opened the fridge to a punnet that went soft before anyone got round to eating it.
Freeze-drying is a gentle way round that problem. The fruit is frozen, the ice is drawn off as vapour, and what is left is light, crisp and full of colour and flavour. It keeps in the cupboard for a long time, weighs next to nothing, and turns a bowl of porridge or a plain sponge into something special.
It is also surprisingly hard to find clear, UK-focused information about it. Most of what is online is written for American kitchens, measured in cups, and aimed at people buying a freeze-drying machine. We wanted a friendly place that answers the everyday questions properly: what it is, how to use it, what is in it and what to look for when you buy.
What you will find here
- Guides that explain the process and the practical stuff, such as storage, shelf life and how to bring fruit back to life with a splash of water.
- Fruit, vegetable and powder pages, one for each ingredient, with typical nutrition values and ideas for using them.
- Recipes measured in grams and millilitres.
- A blog with new articles most days.
What comes next
We are building a shop. When it opens you will be able to buy the freeze-dried berries, fruit and vegetables we write about, carefully sourced and sensibly priced. If you would like to know the moment it does, join the list at the bottom of any page.
How we work
We try to be the most useful and the most honest site on the subject. That means we cite our sources, we do not make health promises that the evidence and UK rules do not support, and we correct mistakes quickly. Our editorial policy explains how articles are researched and written.
